Today we were in St. Louis. It was really cool! The city was not nearly as big or busy as Chicago. We arrived late last night and stayed at the Union Station Hotel. At first we had planned to camp, but because of bad storms in the area, we had to book a last minute reservation at a hotel. Union Station was HUGE!

This picture doesn’t even begin to show how huge!

It used to be the largest train station in the world and those humongous halls would be full of people rushing to catch their trains.

The station was finished and opened in 1894.

We visited the Gateway arch. I didn’t go up to the top in the elevator tram but my siblings did. Instead, I watched a documentary in the museum on the construction of the arch. I was shocked that those builders would go up 630 feet in the air without being harnessed to something. Sometimes when the wind blows, the arch can sway up to 18 inches side to side. Here are a couple of photos that I took from the ground and a few Colby took from the top.

Tonight we are camping near St. Louis and we plan to visit the St Louis zoo tomorrow. I’m excited to see the animals, Mom’s excited because it’s free.

Here’s what our campsite looks like.

When we got camp set up, I was the “fire-master” and I built the fire for dinner, while Emily cooked. Dinner was one of the best meals I’ve ever had.

Also….we saw this funny sign. What do you think it means?
