Wow! Chicago is an amazing city! It’s the biggest city I’ve ever been to! Until now, I thought Nashville was a huge city! People move so fast and there’s so much to see.
The atmosphere certainly wasn’t as friendly as Nashville. People are constantly honking their horns, traffic is insane and not many people smile back when you smile at them. The city had beautiful parts and parts that weren’t so appealing. We had a rat run right across our paths on the way back to our airbnb after dinner! 😖
The place we stayed was a really cool Airbnb right downtown. It had a coffee shop in the lobby and a basement with a game room that had ping pong, foosball, air hockey, slot cars and shuffleboard. Our room felt like a downtown loft that had 6 full sized bunk beds. It was very comfortable!
We had fun trying some classic Chicago food. First we tried a Chicago style hot dog from Portillos. It was really good! It had pickle, relish, tomato, mustard, onions and peppers all on a sesame bun. Sooooo good!
Next we experienced a true Chicago Deep Dish pizza at Ginos East. It was good too… Although I think I might prefer New York style pizza. It was fun to try though.
We met some friendly people in the middle of the chaotic city. We met a friendly man as we were walking back to our Airbnb and got to chat with him about his favorite things about Chicago. He was fascinated to learn that we were about to travel Route 66. We also met a super friendly lady at our hotel who was really helpful and sweet. She helped us with advice on where we should eat and what to order.
We walked over 8 miles around the city to see the sites. We saw some cool places like Buckingham Fountain (one of the biggest fountains in the world),
Lake Michigan (so much bigger than I imagined… It looked like the ocean!), And Navy Pier.
We rode on the biggest Ferris Wheel I’ve ever seen, but could hardly see anything because the whole city was blanketed in the thickest fog ever (it was cold too!)
Overall Chicago was extraordinary! I loved it! Can’t wait to go back and take Dad!
Thank you guys for taking us along! I’m fascinated! And it did my heart good to hear you giggle watching them scamper up the steps, Meg…pure momma joy!! Love you guys!
